Parenting Teens on Screens

PARENTING TEENS ON SCREENS

1 Week Group Coaching Intensive for Parents

On line on ZOOM Conference

Overview

Parenting teenagers in our technology dominated society can be completely overwhelming! The prevalence of technology in our children’s lives is having a significant effect on family relationships as well as on the development of this whole generation of children.  As parents, it is our responsibility to shape how our youth relate to technology, especially with the prevalence of screen options that are designed for children of very young ages. The tasks of creating boundaries, teaching responsible use of technology and staying connected to our teens before they leave home is huge!  However it is well worth every amount of effort we can offer because the habits our youth form in their teen years shape who they become in their early adulthood and beyond.

The way we help our children incorporate technology into their lives, with balance and discernment, will help them beyond their years at home and into their adult life.  This is an opportunity to come together to have the conversation  that many of us want to be having about how to best deal with our teens and tweens on screens!

Module Description

Parenting Teens on Screens is a group coaching opportunity to come together with other parents for a focused week where we will:

1) Explore the influence of screen time on brain development- We will talk about some developmental changes and  neurological patterns that are formed in the teen years, as well as the influence of brain chemicals on creating addictions.

2) Share what is most challenging-  Each parent has different challenges regarding how their child is using technology.  We will touch on the challenges present for those participating and look at how to address these concerns.

3) Identify the traps of social media and gaming-  There are not only addictive traps that are coded into the creation of these programs but there are many distractions available to our youth through gaming and social media.  We will look at some of the issues of these two common screen time preoccupations.

4) Discuss positive approaches for working with our teen- Extremely important is keeping connected to our children in this era of technology dominated “entertainment” options.  We will look at positive and accessible practices for keeping and strengthening your connection with your kids at different ages.

5) Support you in identifying and shifting family patterns-  Here we will touch on family patterns and identify some hidden beliefs that participants have about technology and their children, which sabotage successful family relationships.
